Srinagar, Nov 02 (KNO): Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty on Sunday lauded the overwhelming participation and spirit of runners at the 2nd edition of the Kashmir Marathon, calling it a symbol of unity, fitness and peace. “What a beautiful morning this is... just look at the spirit of people running for Kashmir, for India. It’s truly wonderful,” Shetty told the reporters after attending the event in Srinagar, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). “The enthusiasm, the energy and people from every age group running together, that’s amazing,”he said. The actor, who reached Srinagar a day before the marathon, said he toured Dal Lake and several city spots, adding that he felt the “old charm” of the Valley returning. “I see this winter being a beautiful one for the people of Kashmir,” he said. Expressing joy at attending the second edition, Shetty said he would continue to support such initiatives. “It is my effort every year to come here and encourage these events that bring people together,” he shared. The actor expressed hope that Kashmir will host many more sporting and cultural events in the coming months. “I am 100 per cent sure more athletes will come here. Another major event is planned in February and we’re back in a big way,” he said. Asked about Bollywood’s return to the Valley, Shetty adds that several new films are being shot in Kashmir. “Producers I know are already filming projects like Border, Sheesha and three or four more this year. It is phenomenal and we all need to do our bit because this is ours, one of the most beautiful places on earth,” he added. On the Chief Minister’s participation in the marathon, Shetty said it was “unbelievable” and inspiring. “So fit and more importantly, showing the spirit to stand with the people early in the morning, that’s real leadership,” he said. Praising the boost to tourism from the event, he said more than a hundred international athletes had joined the marathon. “I saw runners even above 60, full of energy. It is incredible to witness such enthusiasm,” he added. Asked if he would run in future editions, Shetty said, “You might see me walking before running, it takes practice!” He added, “What matters most is being here, sharing the story of Kashmir’s beauty and telling the world this is a place to love and visit.” “Last year, tourism was at its peak and hotels were nearly full. I pray this winter we see the same. Kashmir deserves it,” Shetty shared—(KNO)
